Rita , Sue and Bob Too – Estate Affair

An Out of Joint, Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse and Soho Theatre Present

Life on Britain’s council estates has taken centre stage in recent books and TV documentaries, and a series of articles in the Sunday Times culminated in a public debate entitled The Growing Threat of the Underclass. They all seem to share a feeling that a journey to the heart of England is as strange, as exotic and as dangerous as a trip up the Amazon.
Rita, Sue and Bob Too, Andrea Dunbar’s famed semi-autobiographical account of life on a Bradford estate  was first directed by Max Stafford Clark in 1982 and later became a successful film. In the summer of 2000, he and his company of actors made a journey back to the estates  around Bradford  and Leeds that Andrea knew. Estate Affair is a record of what they found.
