Motherland

Live Theatre and Empty Spaces presents

Motherland is a hard-hitting and provocative drama from Newcastle-based Live Theatre, regarded as one of the country’s leading companies for new writing. This powerful and moving drama, the winner of three major awards at last year’s Edinburgh Festival, shares the true stories of women whose everyday lives have been touched by the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Writer and director Steve Gilroy interviewed a number of women in putting together the piece, using their words to create a play that captures the stories of everyday women, women who live in our street and drink in our local, with warmth, humour and candour. Altogether, the cast of four play 16 different characters, all of whom have been touched by the horrors of war._
