Moll Flanders

The Duke's Theatre, Lancaster

MOLL FLANDERS – was both in Newgate, and during a life of continued variety for threescore years, was twelve year a whore, five times a wife, (wherof once to her own brother), twelve year a thief, eight year a transported felon in Virgina, and at last grew rich, lived honest and died a penitent…… It’s one of Defoe’s early novels and when published in 1724 its storyline caused a sensation. It would today – at time when we are supposed to be tough on crime and its causes. In this colourful and lively production a company, all of whome play various musical instruments, tell the story in an enthusiastic and accessible style.
