April In Paris

A Library Theatre Company Production

Marriages are made in heaven? Al’s and Bet’s was made in Hull. He’s a dour, no-nonsense brickie in his thirties. Out of work, now, and getting under her feet. But getting used to a life with no more promises.
When Bet wins a romantic Break For Two in a competition in Bella the pair are faced with their first trip abroad. What with foreign food, art, racy nightlife, more art and scaring off muggers on the mètro, colourful Paris is nothing like Hull.
How will they cope? Will they try the language (and the tiolets)? What happens when they get home?
With worldwide hits like Bouncers, Teechers and Up’n‘Under, John Godber is one of the most popular playrights in Britian, today. April in Paris was hailed as a masterpiece when it transferred to the west end:
‘a genuinely touching and likeable comedy’ The Guardian; ‘Godber is one of the best contemporary british playwrights… who can combine comedy, depth and feeling’ Financial Times; ‘That rare thing, a truely romantic comedy… one of the sweetest, funniest most heart warming experiences on offer’ Daily Mail; ‘The best kind of popular theatre: a warm, good natured play, touching and funny’ Sunday Times.
