Artists have always been fascinated by plague, interpreting what it means to society and art in today’s world.
In this recorded online session Javaad Alipoor (Rich Kids, The Believers Are But Brothers) and Natalie Diddams present their findings in response to the lockdown.
Pricing
Tickets are available as ‘Pay What You Can’ – the suggested price for this event is £5 – but there are a range of ticket prices so you can choose what you can afford from the options, including £0 as we want as many people as possible to access our Homemakers commissions.
We’ve also included a higher option for anyone who wants to take the opportunity to make a larger donation to our artists and organisations. How much you choose to pay is completely up to you, and every audience member will receive exactly the same content and experience.
All the money raised from ticket sales for this event will be split evenly with 50% going directly to the artist and 50% to HOME’s Response Fund to allow them to continue to support future artists and commissions.
About Homemakers
Homemakers is a series of new commissions, where we invite our favourite artists and artistic partners to combine to create work at home, for an audience who are also at home.
We’re not pretending that all art can be experienced online just as satisfactorily as in person; but we want to demonstrate the innovation of artists who work all kinds of forms, by inviting them to respond to this very specific context. We want to bring contemporary new performance to audiences all over the world, in all its form-flexing, mind-expanding, surprising subversive brilliance.
About Natalie Diddams
Natalie Diddams is a theatre maker, academic and feminist community artist. Her theatre work includes B1RTH (Royal Exchange), Thesmo (West Yorkshire Playhouse, Theatre in the Mill and Square Chapel) and The Believers Are But Brothers (The Bush, National and International Tour). Her publishing includes articles in Conjunctions and Research in Drama Education, and chapters in the Routledge Companion to Audiences And the Performing Arts and Second Nature: Comic Performance and Philosophy. She currently teaches at Warwick and Manchester Metropolitan Universities, where she is completing her PhD. She is Artistic Director of The Women’s Comedy Workshop.

About Javaad Alipoor
Javaad Alipoor is an artist and writer. His recent work for theatre includes Rich Kids: A History of Shopping Malls in Tehran and The Believers Are But Brothers. Both opened at the Edinburgh Fringe where they won Fringe Frist awards. Rich Kids was due to transfer to London, and Believers toured nationally and internationally. Former Changemaker and Associate Director at Theatre in the Mill and Sheffield Theatres, he directed a new adaptation of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest for The Crucible in 2018. His work for screen includes the TV adaptation of The Believers Are But Brothers. He is Artistic Director of The Javaad Alipoor Company. He was a founder member of International Alliance in Support of Iranian Workers and The Syria Solidarity Campaign. His writing about international politics, cultural policy and art has been featured in The Stage, The Independent and The Guardian. His plays have been published by Oberon, and his poetry by Art in Unusual Places.
