A CARIBBEAN ABROAD

Black Arts Development Project - Cultureshock

A Caribbean Abroad is the story of a generation. A generation of Black people from the islands which make up the Caribbean; people who left their mother countries – and their hearts – to journey thousands of miles in search of a new life.
Many of them endured years of economic hardship, isolation, racial violence and harassment in their adopted country, sustained only by their dreams of returning home.
But they can’t return unchanged…their accents are different, their clothes are different, they are out-of-touch and privileged.
This moving play explores the desire of that older generation to repatriate themselves to the country of their birth after years of exile, and poses the question…what is in the Caribbean spirit that calls them back – to an uncertain future?
