Bruce LaBruce

Bruce LaBruce is a filmmaker, writer and photographer based in Toronto. The artist works with stereotypes such as skinheads, punks and sadomasochistic scenes in a pornographic context as a metaphor to reflect on the sexism still present in contemporary society. LaBruce has contributed to the publication of the queer-punk fanzine J.D.s, and currently writes and produce photographs for the gay adult magazines Honcho and Inches.

The artist has written and directed ten feature films – many winning awards – and has been honoured with film retrospectives at both TIFF/Bell Lightbox in 2014, and at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2015. LaBruce has exhibited work internationally at galleries in Toronto, Porto, Berlin, Barcelona and LA. His new film The Misandrists premiered at the Berlin Film Festival 2017. The series Obscenity has been exhibited at La Fresh Gallery in Madrid, as well as New York and Mexico.
