In this short video introduction, Lady Unchained, curator of Soul Journey to Truth, talks about how she selected and curated over 135 artworks for the exhibition, her experience in prison, how art and poetry saved her life and it is still saving others. The aim of this unique show is to share fragile and powerful stories through art that would otherwise go unheard.
Soul Journey to Truth is an exhibition that shines a light on the creative talent within prisons, secure settings, and people on probation in the North West.
Lady Unchained (Brenda Birungi) has curated over 135 artworks from entries to the 2020 Koestler Awards – an annual scheme run by Koestler Arts, the UK’s leading prison arts charity promoting artistic achievement in the criminal justice system and secure sectors. This exhibition is produced in partnership with Koestler Arts as a part of Ripples of Hope Festival 2021.
