Jan – Mar 2012 Cornerhouse Guide

Our January to March Guide is jam packed with details of screenings, events and exhibitions.

We’ve got three very different new exhibitions for you this quarter. First up is Lost and Found which opens in Gallery 1 from Sat 14 January. This group show features work from nine artists based in the North of England, which find beauty in the redundant and discarded, explore past lives and find new stories in transformations and fleeting identities. Then, don’t miss our solo show from British artist Samantha Donnelly. Contour States brings new work from Donnelly, which explores representations of female identity in photography, TV, film and advertisements, to Galleries 2 & 3. We’re also pleased to present a solo show from Mexican artist Minerva Cuevas as part of ¡Viva! 2012. Landings will open in Gallery 1 on Sat 3 March.

You can take a sneak peak at highlights from the 18th edition of  ¡Viva! Spanish and Latin American Film Festival to look forward to, and find out which classic films we’ll be showing as part of our Matinee Classics strand this quarter.
As the award-season approaches we’ve got a great selection of new releases for you to enjoy. Standout films include: The Artist, a stunning black and white silent film that brings the magic of Hollywood’s golden age to our screens; The Iron Lady, starring Meryl Streep as the formidable Margaret Thatcher; and Carnage, Roman Polanski’s latest film, which is an adaptation of the award-winning play The God of Carnage, and features an all-star ensemble cast.
