Annual Review 2009-2010

Since we opened in 1985, Cornerhouse has been at the forefront of Manchester’s vibrant cultural scene. As we enter our twenty-fifth year, we’re still inspiring, challenging and entertaining our diverse audiences more successfully than ever.

How can we be so sure?

  • In 2009/10 our visitor numbers hit a new high, reaching just over 500,000. This confirms our status as a social and creative hub for the city which helps to build the city’s reputation as a vibrant, essential destination for the cultural tourist.
  • We’re also making a positive financial impact. Recent research shows that for every £1 of Arts Council funding we receive, we generate over £7 for the local economy.
  • Thanks to our innovative approach to programming, we are working with more artists than ever before, developing local curators and significantly contributing to both academic research and official cultural policy. We’ve produced several critically acclaimed exhibitions and our visual art attendance figures have doubled.
  • And around 10,000 people of all ages took advantage of our acclaimed range of education and engagement activities.
