Who Shot the Sheriff?

Directed by Alan Miles

This doc tells the story of the Rock Against Racism (RAR) movement of the ’70s when music played a key part in mobilising opposition to racism and the National Front.

Featuring rare archive footage from the punk and RAR era – including the Clash, the Specials, Steel Pulse, and Misty in Roots – the film draws on a wealth of exclusive interviews with musicians and activists associated with RAR (among them Mick Jones, Jerry Dammers, Poly Styrene, Don Letts, and RAR founders Red Saunders and Roger Huddle). As well as capturing the essence of a movement which, back in the late 70s, served as a political and musical education for a generation, the film also links the struggle to stop the National Front in the 1970s with current anti-BNP campaigns like the Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) movement, and includes contemporary concert footage featuring the likes of Ms Dynamite, Pete Doherty, and Hard-Fi.

The film draws on a wealth of exclusive interviews with musicians and activists associated with RAR and links the movement with today’s anti-BNP campaigns.
