Whisper with the Wind

Directed by Sharam Alidi

A gripping drama set in Kurdistan, where the cinematic wonderland of landscapes acts as the backdrop for this heartfelt, tale of a de-facto postman who travels the countryside recording desperate messages from families separated by war. This highly stylised story follows the devoted messenger who, shortly after the Anfal campaign (which was a campaign carried out by Sadam’s army in 1988) and via an essential yet incriminating radio, records messages and surreptitiously passes them on to the fearless broadcaster. The underground radio station continues to operate despite obvious dangers of discovery by the Iraqi Army, with their days ultimately numbered how long can they continue?

Screened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, Whisper With Wind scooped 3 awards and now has its 2nd ever UK screening at the Manchester Kurdish Film Festival.
