War Witch is a tale of civil war, resilience and love set in a small village in sub-Saharan Africa. After her village is burned down by rebels and her parents are killed, twelve-year-old Komona is forced into the jungle as a child soldier. The rebel soldiers see her survival of a subsequent massacre as a sign of magical powers, which they intend to use for their own protection. Komona quickly befriends an older albino soldier, Magician, and together they make a break for freedom. Told from Komona’s perspective, War Witch uses realism and dream sequences to portray the horrors of civil war and Komona’s hopes for a better life.
