Shot for a pittance on DV, dedicated to and inspired by John Cassavetes, VIRGIL BLISS reminds us of what US indies were all about before the alternative scene became a Mira-maximum playground. Virgil Bliss wants all the ‘usual’ trappings: good job, decent wife, happy family. But his previous career as a thief, his association with the miscreant Manny and his instant love for junkie Ruby mean that Virgil just might have a little trouble realising that American dream.
