Ushers’ Film of the Year/ Sound of Metal

Directed by Darius Marder

The HOME Customer Service team select their must-see film of 2021.

Sound means everything in Ruben’s life. Starting with friendly jazz as he gets up, it amps up to the intense drumming he does every night with his girlfriend and mate Lou in their band. When he suddenly goes deaf after a concert, it unbalances their precarious, nomadic rock life. Who is Ruben if what his identity rests on is gone? And will he be able to stay clean now his musical means of release is no more?

Debuting director Darius Marder, who co-wrote Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines, immerses us entirely in Ruben’s struggles. The incisive sound design for Sound of Metal again underscores how much cinema depends on sound and Riz Ahmed is sensational in the lead role.

Socially Distanced Screenings at HOME: An Update

From Mon 27 Dec until Sun 30 Jan, the majority of film screenings at HOME will be socially distanced.

How do our socially distanced screenings work?

When booking, please select whether you would like to sit at the front, middle or back of the screen.  You will automatically be allocated the best available seats in that area. Our booking system automatically places two empty seats either side of your booked seats.

When you arrive at HOME, please take a moment to check on your tickets which seats you have booked. If you are unsure of where to go, our staff will be on hand and happy to help. Once in the cinema, we ask that you stay in your allocated seat and do not move to sit with others.
