The shade from a front-yard tree brings the already simmering tensions between two families in an Icelandic suburb to boiling point, in this absurdist and psychologically astute comedy from director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson. Probing the way proximity heightens resentment and malice, Under the Tree is evocative of Rams in its deadpan humour and ability to offer pithy insight into the foibles of contemporary existence.
