Uncle Howard

Directed by Aaron Brookner

A beautiful portrait of filmmaker Howard Brookner, best known for his documentaries on William Burroughs and Robert Wilson, by family member Aaron Brookner, Uncle Howard also looks more widely at 1980s New York and the burgeoning US Indie scene (Jim Jarmusch and Tom DiCillo both feature). The spectre on the horizon is the burgeoning AIDS epidemic and the director also captures a gay scene about to undergo a seismic jolt. Radiating a philosophy of living life to the full, this is an assured and affectionate documentary.
