UK Premiere/ 8 cuentos sobre mi hipoacusia

Directed by Charo Mato

A beautifully crafted and wonderfully personal documentary about hearing loss and family dynamics. Diagnosed with progressive bilateral sensorineural hearing loss aged 6, Charo Mato became fully deaf by the age of 23, and received cochlear implants against her parents’ wishes.

Argentine filmmaker Mato weaves together eight stories and questions around her hearing loss, using memories, interviews and home video footage to examine her childhood as well as the experiences of other family members. She gently grieves her late mother and relishes conversations with her exuberant Italian-speaking father.

Selected for the festival programme by HOME volunteers and Young Film Programmers.
