Tideland

Directed by Terry Gilliam

Made back-to-back with THE BROTHERS GRIMM, TIDELAND is a much more personal, albeit controversial, dark Gilliam fairy tale, based on the novel by Mitch Cullin. Precocious child Jeliza-Rose helps her junkie parents shoot up. When her mother ODs, she and daddy (Jeff Bridges) head for the country where her imagination can really roam free. There she finds a kindred spirit in mentally-disabled neighbour Dickens. This disturbing Alice in Wonderland story ain’t no Little House on the Prairie, with its young central character involved in drug abuse, death and sexuality.  Not surprising then that TIDELAND has been splitting audiences.
