The Way of the Gun

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie

The directorial début of the Oscar-winning screenwriter of THE USUAL SUSPECTS, McQuarrie’s brutal crime film is riddled with a graphic violence that questions the effect of years of Tarantinoesque thrillers. Two hoods (Del Toro, Phillippe) hatch a scheme to kidnap a heavily pregnant surrogate mother (Lewis) carrying the baby of a well-connected tycoon. Pursued by her slick bodyguards and the tycoon’s old-time hired gun (Caan), they take off into Mexico awaiting their payoff. The body count mounts and the plot becomes ever more complex but McQuarriedoesn’t pull his punches in depicting the men who live and die by the guns that define their lives.
