The Spirit of Hulme

Directed by Terry Egan

A quarterly film programme exploring the creativity of our city’s most essential charities, community groups and voluntary organisations. This screening focuses on Hulme, HOME’s closest neighbour. Featuring the HOME premier of The Spirit OF Hulme alongside poetry work followed by a panel of Hulme campaigners and creatives.

The Spirit of Hulme is a whistle stop tour through 70 years of Hulme’s history. Focusing on some of those who fought for better housing conditions and the right of the community to be consulted on what replaced the system-built housing that had largely failed within seven years of construction.

This is a chance to hear about Hulme from the people who live it!

This was a One Manchester project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the films were made by past and present residents of Hulme, MMU film students, REELmcr and Tracie Daly.

The filmed poem was written and performed by participants aged from the age of 8 to 80, mentored by Tony Walsh (Longfellow).
