The Hired Hand

Directed by Peter Fonda

Peter Fonda’s neglected masterpiece is one of the few feminist westerns and a notable addition to the genre. Beautifully shot by Vilmos Zsigmond and with music composed by Dylan producer Bruce Langhorne, this is a very rare chance to see one of the most poetic American films of the 1970s on the big screen. The trio of leads (Oates, Fonda and Verna Bloom) make the heart weep.
