Described as “Jamaica’s very first feature film”, The Harder They Come features reggae superstar Jimmy Cliff as Ivan, a renegade songwriter from the boondocks of Jamaica who comes to the big city looking for dreams and only finds reality. A cult classic with an astute take on politics and the dog eat dog nature of the entertainment industry, it’s very much an anti-tourism film fizzing with violence and energy. Cliff acts as well as he sings, also crafting the film’s exceptional soundtrack.
