The Cuckoo

Directed by Alexander Rogozhkin

In 1944 in the dying days of the Nazi occupation of Finland, a strange ‘Odd Trio’ is formed when a forced Finnish conscript to the German Army and a Soviet officer arrested for ‘political’ writings separately seek sanctuary at the hut of a war-widowed young Lapp woman. The three strangers cannot speak each other’s language (Finnish, Russian, and Saami), but with Anni as mediator, a wary peace is won and a cautious friendship conceived. Set against the stunning, stark Lapp landscape, CUCKOO is an often comic, moving anti-war parable.
