The Closet

Directed by Francis Veber

THE CLOSET is a star-spangled French farce written and directed by the co-writer of the original LA CAGE AUX FOLLES. François (Auteuil) is a straight-arrow middle manager at a condom factory whose dull life is upset by impending redundancy. Until his neighbour offers a solution – convince them you’re queer and save your job. How can a condom factory fire a gay man? A few doctored, compromising photos later and François’ life is completely revolutionised. He’s suddenly become interesting to everyone – except the homophobic personnel director (Depardieu) who has to be ordered on best behaviour. Skewering both OTT political correctness and bigotry, THE CLOSET was another of the huge French hits of 2000.
