Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator

Directed by Helen Stickler

STOKED charts the rise and fall of Mark ‘Gator’ Rogowski, an 80s skateboarding superstar now serving 31 years to life for rape and murder. Tracing the tidal trends of skateboarding, from the popularity of Gator’s vert skating (as seen in DOGTOWN), to the stirrings of street skating, the film equally clocks the commercialisation of the sport and its boom and bust from the 80s to 90s, revealing how both of these contributed to Gator’s mental instability. STOKED features contemporary interviews with those involved, archive clips of Gator and skate legends like Tony Hawk, Christian Hosoi, and Lance Mountain plus a soundtrack of 80s New Wave and Cal punk.
