This affectionate documentary aims to shed light on the hidden talent beneath the Motown sound. The ‘Funk Brothers’ were the financially (and otherwise) exploited basement studio musicians providing the backing tracks for Berry Gordon’s stars. The film mixes interviews, archive footage and modern interpretations of Motown hits by the likes of Chaka Khan, Bootsy Collins and Joan Osborne, with the Funk Brothers still giving it all.The screening on Mon 1 Sep, 6.05pm will be introduced by Bob Dickenson, musician, broadcaster and producer of Radio 4’s Front Row.
