Sofia Coppola’s La Traviata

Directed by Sofia Coppola

A collaboration between American filmmaker Sofia Coppola and Italian haute couture king Valentino Garavani comes in the form of a revival of Giuseppe Verdi’s classic opera, La Traviata.

Coppola brings new life into Verdi’s 1853 opera that tells the story of tempestuous love and heartbreak. Violetta Valéry is a well-known courtesan in Paris whose life appears to be glamorous. However, she’s suffering from a serious illness and living on the money given to her by her male patrons. But she ends up meeting and falling in love with Alfredo Germont, a young man from a good family. But tragic circumstances mean they’re torn apart…

Coppola joined this production of La Traviata when Valentino personally invited her to direct. It has already become one of the most successful revivals of the story, immediately selling out its 15 performance run in Rome. Now, thanks to Coppola and Valentino, the elegant spectacle is being brought directly to the big screen, captured in glorious 4K from the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
