Salford Showcase Programme 2

Join the University of Salford for a showcase of the very best of this year’s moving image work. The selection of shorts from both undergraduate and postgraduate students will feature documentary films, fiction, animation and artist film from across the School of Arts & Media. This screening will be taking place to celebrate the talent across the School of Arts & Media and will delivered in partnership with HOME.

A young Adelie penguin finds himself admiring the birds that fly among the skies. Believing himself to be one of them he attempts to achieve the feat with his wings shaped flippers but to no avail. Over the years he becomes inspired thinking of different ways he’d be able to achieve flight. He eventually succeeds but not in the way he imagined it.

Hope School
A story about an ordinary young man who has slightly differently idea of how to live his life, and the journey of finding what is truly wanted and desired in his life.

In The Flesh
Exploring an unusual method of regaining control and challenging preconceptions of bodily freedom.

Living with depression post-breakdown, young poet Amy finds safety and comfort from up on a stage.

NHS Apocalypse
Experimental documentary. On the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service, patients and visitors to a hospital ward discuss the future of the NHS

Old and Perilous
Rose an elderly woman in her twilight years lives alone. Her life is on repeat, she sees her grandson, does the same shopping each week and is tormented by the loud music of young men living above her. In a frustrating encounter with the young men where they mock her for being an “old women”, she suddenly sees the value of the internet and sets out to show the youth of today that you are never too old to harness technology.

Pulse
A one-shot screen dance – Pulse tells of the inner conflict Daniel faces when coming to terms with his sexuality, exploring his acceptance and love through stylised, surreal continuous movement; battling his denial and faith

The Sleep of Endyminon
In a modern film noir style, while a man lies in hospital, the two sons fear the worse. As they prepare for the fathers demise, the two brothers come to realise there is a third party involved in the father’s last will and testimony. Greed turns brother against brother and son against father as the third party is revealed.
