Salford Showcase Programme 1

Join the University of Salford for a showcase of the very best of this year’s moving image work. The selection of shorts from both undergraduate and postgraduate students will feature documentary films, fiction, animation and artist film from across the School of Arts & Media. This screening will be taking place to celebrate the talent across the School of Arts & Media and will delivered in partnership with HOME.

Films Screening in Programme One Include:

Alpha Mail
Adopting the silent era style, using sound to strongly support the visuals, this film follows the story of two Post people eager to please their boss to retain their job. The Boss sets a series of tasks to find the best and fastest post person- a good v evil approach to getting your mail delivered – who would you prefer.

Black Girl Magic

In short, the film is Trip Advisor combined with Tinder. As the capabilities of social media are praised, our story will offer an alternative perspective on the implications social media has on our sense of identity and mental health..

Keeping it Reel
A group of retired Cinema projectionists and film enthusiasts describe the impact that celluloid has had on their lives as well as why and how they keep the art and craft of celluloid film alive.

Making a Meal of It
Fontus is a cube-shaped mesoplanet located in the Triplicata Galaxy. Three of its six faces are in constant sunlight, creating a blistering desert. Its other three faces are always in darkness- an arctic wasteland. Cobb lives in the planet’s Hot Zone under a tree, which sits amongst the ruins of his family home. Now entirely alone, Cobb dreams of water, food and companionship. Clinging to his last hope of survival, Cobb finds himself travelling across the planet on an ambitious search for water in a seemingly uninhabitable world.

A contemporary adaptation of the Suffragette movement to celebrate the centenary of women’s suffrage in 2018! Based in Manchester where the story first took place, The Left Rib celebrates the sacrifice some women had to make for a better future 100 years on.

The Salford Death Café
A short documentary on Salford’s first ever death café, following end-of-life therapist Mandi Weston who organises the meetings which take place the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month. The death café is a place for people with a shortened life expectancy to talk about anything they like, over a cup of tea and a slice of cake!

Womanhood
A look into the lives of five women, their attitudes towards their body image, and how this changes with age.
