The deserved winner of the 1999 Palme d’Or, ROSETTA is an unflinching, honest portrayal of a Belgian teenage girl’s struggle to survive against the odds. Rosetta (Dequenne) lives with her alcoholic mother in a dingy caravan park on the edge of a grim town. The girl is desperate for a job to support them both, but can’t find that rarity – work. She darts around, avoiding the caravan owner, chasing an opportunity, trying to find a space for herself. She finally finds both a friend and work – at a cost.
