Regina

Directed by Diana Groó

There is only one photograph of Regina Jonas, the first woman to be ordained as a rabbi. Born in 1902 when Jewish law did not permit the ordination of women, she lived in Berlin in the 1930s, at a time when it was dangerous to be Jewish. Her role as a pioneering spiritual leader is little known and this sensitively realised documentary uncovers Regina Jonas’ life and times, revealing her inspirational strength of character and determination.
