Not so much an adaptation of Mérimée or Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ as a riff on several of its themes, Godard’s film finds Carmen X staging a bank heist to support a terrorist cell, but falling in love with the bank guard. Godard plays the role of ‘Uncle Jean’.
