Krystof is a successful architect tired of pandering to clients with no sense of design. His relationship with his wife Tereza is also in crisis. She is so distracted by the lack of communication between them that she cannot function in her work as a translator. The sophisticated but bleak environment is mirrored in the cinematography, recalling Antonioni.
