Nightmare Alley

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro’s follow-up to The Shape of Water marks an impressive change of direction. This time round, humanity is the monster. Based on William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 novel of the same name and previously filmed by Edmund Goulding, Nightmare Alley is a classic film noir, albeit illuminated by the director’s trademark visual flair.
