My Architect: A Son’s Journey

Directed by Nathaniel Kahn

A special preview of this Oscar-nominated documentary for Architecture Week (18 -25 June). Louis Kahn was an acclaimed American architect who died of a heart attack in Penn Station, NYC. That much is known. Less known is the fact that the man had three families on the go, with only one ‘legal’. This moving and informative documentary traces the attempt by Kahn’s only (‘illegitimate’) son to discover the father that he hardly knew. Interweaving interviews with some of America’s top architects (Frank Gehry, I.M. Pei, Robert Stern), archive footage of Kahn and detailed investigations of the buildings themselves, Nathaniel explores the life of a wandering dreamer who left very concrete marks upon our world. The film will screen at Cornerhouse in the autumn. In association with Cube.
