Muhammad Ali – The Greatest

Directed by William Klein

Although finished in 1974, Klein’s documentary was never released in the UK – until this year. Early on the director recognised the charisma and significance of the young Cassius Clay and thus followed him from the early days to the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’. The first half of the film offers unique B&W footage that tracks the 1964 title fight and rematch against Sonny Liston. The second half, shot in colour, focuses on the famous 1974 bout. Fascinating and revealing.
