Man of the Year

Directed by José Henrique Fonseca

This testosterone-driven directorial début offers a sharply satirical comment on a cynical, lawless Brazil. A feckless young working class man, Maiquel, kills an under-age criminal for calling him a faggot because of his dyed hair. Rather than being locked away, Maiquel becomes a local hero for ridding the community of the scourge. But it all spirals out of control as Maiquel soon finds himself in a new, bloody line of business. “Stylishly shot, brilliantly acted and completely over-the-top.” bbc.co.uk/films
