The third and final instalment in Garrel’s trilogy of love comprising Jealousy and In the Shadow of Women, Lover For a Day is another monochrome Paris-set examination of love. It focuses on Jeanne, a young woman who moves back into her father’s tiny flat after eviction to discover her father is living with a new girlfriend of her own age. Initially rivals for her father’s attention, a bond between the women tentatively develops.
