Little Joe

Directed by Jessica Hausner

Alice (Beecham, Daphne) is a dedicated plant breeder at a corporation engaged in developing new species. She has engineered a flower remarkable not only for its beauty but also for its therapeutic value. Against company policy, Alice takes one home as a gift for her son, Joe. They christen it ‘Little Joe’ but as it grows, so too does Alice’s suspicion that her new creations may not be harmless.

The English language debut from Austrian director Jessica Hausner is clinically stylised and emotionally austere. Featuring a strong supporting cast, it has echoes of The Day of the Triffids and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
