L’Humanité

Directed by Bruno Dumont

Like DANCER IN THE DARK, this second feature from the director of LA VIE DE JESUS is splitting opinion right down the middle with its examination of claustrophobic small town life. Pharaon, a shy plain-clothes detective lives with his mother in north east France. His life is simple unlike that of his neighbour Domino, who fascinates him, especially her volatile and passionate relationship with her aggressive boyfriend. But life changes radically for Pharaon when the mutilated body of a child is discovered. Winner of Grand Prix du Jury & Best Actor, Best Actress (shared), Cannes 1999.Shooting Schedule allowing, BBC Scene by Scene presenter Mark Cousins will introduce the 8.10pm screening on Thu 12th, sharing his passion for L’HUMANITÉ.
