Acclaimed French director Varda’s thought-provoking documentary is a gathering of tales about gleaners – both ancient and modern. The former were peasant women charged with collecting the wheat left behind during the harvest. The latter the people Varda met on the roads of France who deal with the discards of the modern world – recyclers, treasure hunters, etc. But the director is ultimate gleaner and this wonderful film is the result of her efforts.
