Last Days

Directed by Gus Van Sant

Loosely inspired by Kurt Cobain, this final chapter in Van Sant’s trilogy that started with GERRY is a fictional meditation on the inner turmoil that engulfs a brilliant but troubled musician in the final hours of his life. LAST DAYS expands upon the elliptical style and editing, squared frame and disquieting sound mix that made ELEPHANT so stunning. In an amazing, almost choreographed performance Pitt plays Blake, haunting his huge forested hideaway like a ghost in a haze of drugs and isolation – except friends seeking handouts. Like ELEPHANT, LAST DAYS takes an almost mythic, media-dissected event and filters it down to its most elemental and inexplicable. This is rock biopic as only Gus Van Sant could make.
