Albaladejo’s feature début was scripted by the director and author Elvira Lindo. It’s a small comic gem of a road movie, set on the streets of a Madrid suburb as the new millennium is about to dawn. The very pregnant Paloma and her husband set out in a borrowed van to celebrate New Year’s eve with her parents. When the van breaks down, the night becomes a succession of misunderstandings, hitchhiking, lost cars, and mistaken identities, featuring beggars, thieves, tourists, taxi drivers, and a giant prawn. Introduced by Fernando Lopez, Instituto Cervantes. (In English). Screening courtesy of Alphaville and ICAA.
