Cruz won a Best Actress Goya (1 of 7 for the film) for her performance in Trueba’s hit comic drama (based on a true story). In 1938 while the Civil War rages at home, a troupe of Spanish actors travel to Germany to shoot a co-produced remake of an Andalucian musical drama. When lead actress Macarena (Cruz) draws the unwelcome attention of Goebbels, the actors come to realise that this film could cost them dearly.
