Joy of Madness

Directed by Hana Makhmalbaf

We’ve had films from dad Mohsen Makhmalbaf, elder sister Samira, mum Marziyeh Meshkini, and now younger sis Hana. The 14-year-old trailed after Samira as she prepared for the shoot of AT FIVE IN THE AFTERNOON, gaining access to people and places due to her young age. Shot from her angle, the documentary reveals the poverty-stricken, fear-filled lives of many of the refugees they encountered as well as the challenges of making a film in a country where cinema has been almost non-existent.
