The late-50s series Chelsea at Nine provides rare footage of the incomparable Billie Holiday, nearing the end of her turbulent life (extract – tx 18.3.59, 8 mins). Granada also recorded jazz great Sarah Sings and Basie Swings, Sarah Vaughan and Count Basie at Free Trade Hall in 1963 (40 mins), which will show after Chelsea at Nine.
This archive footage is very old so is not our usual standard quality, however this is the only recording in existence and a rare opportunity to see exceptional jazz singers.
