Intacto

Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo

Previewed in ¡Viva! 2003, Fresnadillo’s feature directorial début INTACTO is an original, highly effective thriller about a shadowy ‘trade’ in a rare commodity – luck. Plane crash survivor Tómas’ luck appears to have run out until earthquake survivor Federico (Poncela) offers to save the young man if in exchange he will gamble on his behalf in a bid for revenge. But Tómas (Sbaraglia) hadn’t realised the cruel nature of the clandestine game into which he was about to enter. The excellent cast mixes veterans like Poncela and Bergman icon Von Sydow (who you can see in the Ingmar Bergman season this month) with popular young Argentine actor Sbaraglia to complement a taut script and striking visuals. Winner of Best New Director and Best New Actor (Sbaraglia) at the 2002 Goya Awards.
