Hounds of Love

Directed by Ben Young

Premiered at Venice Film festival, where it won the Fedeora Prize for Best Actress for Ashleigh Cummings’ standout performance, Hounds of Love marks an auspicious directorial debut from Ben Young. In the mid-1980’s seventeen-year-old Vicki Maloney is randomly abducted from a suburban street by a disturbed couple. As she observes the dynamic between her captors she quickly realises she must drive a wedge between them if she is to survive. Inspired by numerous real-life cases and evocative of Snowtown in its low-key aesthetic, this is a gripping, anxiety-inducing work.
