Heaven

Directed by Tom Tykwer

When offered the chance to direct a film based on Kieslowski’s final screenplay, young German director Tykwer jumped at the chance, recognising in the Polish auteur’s work a shared set of concerns and themes. The resulting HEAVEN is a strange and strangely compelling mix of thriller and love story that deals with guilt, redemption and the incredible power of love. As with all of Tykwer’s work, it is rich in visual and aural pleasure. In Turin, English teacher Philippa (Blanchett) is arrested for a revenge killing gone wrong. Young police officer Filippo (Ribisi) translates for the suspect during the interrogation, falls deeply in love, and vows to help her escape.
